For the past five weeks New York City has hosted this year’s Red Bull Music Academy, a world-traveling event that sees professional and aspiring artists convene for a series of concerts, lectures, workshops, and art installations. As part of the month-long gathering LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy took part in an extensive Q&A session in front of some 60 RBMA students to discuss his career and his various influences. At one point during the interview Murphy touched on his inevitable interest in dance music: “Making people dance has another function that has nothing to do with art, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. It’s like food – if you’re not eating it, you’re doing something wrong. If they’re not dancing, something is wrong.”
