Swedish singer-songwriter José González is currently in the midst of a North American tour with New York chamber music ensemble yMusic in support of his 2015 album Vestiges & Claws. Yesterday the songwriter premiered a video at Vogue for his song “With the Ink of a Ghost,” off the aforementioned album. The video is directed by Malin Ingrid Johansson and choreographed by Erik Linghede and features the beautifully swaying and twisting dancing of fellow Swede Yared Cederlund. Cederlund is seen throughout the video moving in freeform movement to José‘s peaceful and meditative melody. Watch below.
Of the video Johansson says: “Using both the physical movement through Yared’s body, and the movement between the two rooms, we wanted to do something as contradictory as visualizing the invisible. Us people are often strongly under the influence by forces we can’t see. Forces inside and outside of us, sometimes created by events that took place long before us. In the same way, our actions today will affect those coming long after us. By then we will be what’s invisible.”
The addition of yMusic, who has also collaborated with artists such as Ben Folds and Dirty Projectors, provides a lush and orchestral undercurrent for González’s moving melodies and singing. “yMusic is thrilled to be joining José,” says Rob Moose of yMusic, “and to bring our musicianship and unique color to José‘s gorgeous, moody songwriting.” Tour dates are below.
