Katy Goodman of La Sera (and formerly of Vivian Girls) and Greta Morgan (of Springtime Carnivore) have teamed up for a new album of covers entitled, Take It, It’s Yours, which is due out August 26 via Polyvinyl. Previously they shared their covers of The Replacements’ “Bastards of Young” and Gun Club’s “Sex Beat.” Now the duo have shared a video for their beautiful slowed down and stripped back cover of Buzzcocks’ classic “Ever Fallen in Love.” It’s a fairly simple clip, seemingly shot on Super 8 and showing the duo singing the song against a dark background. Watch it below via The A.V. Club (who premiered it), followed by the album’s tracklist again.
Morgan had this to say about the cover and video:
“The sonic landscape of this cover feels to me like a moonlit haunted garden, so we filmed the video in my backyard in pitch black night. The flowers are a metaphor for the subject of the song: they are all night blooms which open in the beginning of the video and then close toward the end to symbolize the opening and closing of a person’s heart in a relationship that’s ended.
“As for the recording, I recorded vocals and guitar in one take, then Katy overdubbed her chorus harmonies, bringing the song to life in a magical way. We added some vibraphone and guitar through the echoplex and then it was finished. This is my favorite track on the covers record.”
Morgan has also just announced a new Springtime Carnivore album for release on October 7.
