Mikal Cronin’s new album, MCIII, is out today via Merge. Read our review of it here. In honor of its release Cronin has put out a new video for “Turn Around” and he also performed the song on Conan last night. The “Turn Around” video stars comedians Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords, The Last Man on Earth) and Kurt Braunohler is a shot-by-shot reenactment of the video for Natalie Imbruglia’s 1997 hit single “Torn” (which itself was a cover, the original was released in 1995 by American alt-rockers Ednaswap).

Talk about a random idea for a Mikal Cronin video, as many of his younger fans will barely remember Imbruglia’s one hit. The “Turn Around” video was made as part of JASH’s $5K Video Series, in which musicians are paired with a comedian and given $5000 to make any kind of video they want. I wonder who came up with this one, Cronin or Schaal and Braunohler?

Check out the “Turn Around” video below, followed by the original “Torn” video, as well as Cronin’s upcoming tour dates.
