Lana Del Rey released a new album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, in August via Interscope. She’s currently touring the album and each night has been covering Joni Mitchell’s “For Free” (from her 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon). Tonight she plays the Hollywood Bowl and has shared a backstage video of her rehearsing “For Free” as a trio with Weyes Blood (aka Natalie Mering) and Zella Day. Watch the gorgeous rendition on Instagram (or via the link below).

Pick up our current print issue (the My Favorite Album Issue) to read our interview with Weyes Blood on her all-time favorite album.

Lana Del Rey released her last album, Lust for Life, in July 2017 via Interscope. Last September she returned with a new song “Mariners Apartment Complex,” shared via a black & white video. That was quickly followed by another new song, the near 10-minute long “Venice Bitch,” also shared via a video (the song was our #1 Song of the Week). Both songs were collaborations with Jack Antonoff (he of fun. and Bleachers, and in an in-demand producer). Then she shared a cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time.” And she also shared a pro-gun control song “Looking for America” and a cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch,” neither of which are featured on the album. Then she shared two new songs from it, “Fuck It I Love You” and “The Greatest,” via a joint video for both songs (“The Greatest” was one of our Songs of the Week). Then she shared a video for her cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time” in which she’s a giant wandering around Los Angeles and eventually also walks out of a movie screen at a drive-in movie theater.

Weyes Blood released a new album, Titanic Rising, back in April via Sub Pop, her first album for the label. It was our joint Album of the Week and you can read our rave review of it here. Titanic Rising includes “Andromeda,” a new song she shared in January that was one of our Songs of the Week. When the album was announced Weyes Blood shared a self-directed slasher movie video for the new song “Everyday,” which was our #1 Song of the Week. The album cover was photographed in a bedroom fully submerged in water, with no CGI. Video was also shared of Weyes Blood performing a new song from the album, “Something to Believe,” at Pitchfork’s Midwinter Festival in Chicago. Then she shared another new song, “Movies,” via a self-directed video in which a movie theater audience magically jump into the film they are watching. “Movies” was also one of our Songs of the Week. Weyes Blood also recently sang guest vocals on a song by Drugdealer, “Honey.” Once the album was released album track “Wild Time” was also one of our Songs of the Week.
