Laura Marling is releasing a new album, Semper Femina, on March 10 via More Alarming Records, which is Marling’s own label via Kobalt Music Recordings. Previously she shared a video for its first single, “Soothing,” as well as another song from the record, “Wild Fire.” Now Marling has shared another song from the album via its video, “Next Time.” Marling directed the video herself, which features a woman seemingly trapped in a room. Watch it below, followed by her tour dates.
Semper Femina is the 26-year-old’s sixth album and the follow-up to 2015’s Short Movie. Marling recorded the album in Los Angeles and co-produced it with Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Jim James). As the title suggests, the album tackles gender and sexuality. As Marling explained in a previous press release: “I started out writing Semper Femina as if a man was writing about a woman, and then I thought; ‘it’s not a man, it’s me. I don’t need to pretend it’s a man to justify the intimacy, or the way I’m looking and feeling about women. It’s me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them, and by proxy, towards myself.’”
