Mew seem to have quite a devoted fanbase (for good reason, they are a great band) and in the Danish group’s inventive new video they have involved exactly 1,000 of their fans (from 65 countries). Via carefully chosen and edited fan shot videos, the Frengers (as Mew refer to their fans, “not quite friends, not quite strangers”) sing along to the song, their heads quickly flickering over frontman Jonas Bjerre’s face. The rest of the band (Bo Madsen, Silke Utke Graae Jorgensen, and Johan Wohlert) also appear.
William Reynish (a Danish animator/director) helmed the video. The band had this to say in a press release: “This project has been all about creating something exceptional and totally different together with our fans. We are super happy with the many contributions we have received and that our fans have wanted to throw themselves into this experiment together with us.”
The video was created via the OneNote app from Microsoft Office 365. You can find out more about the project at www.mew365.com. And below you can also watch a video about the making of the project.
“The Night Believer” is taken from Mew’s recently released new album, +-, which is out now via [PIAS] America. Check out the video below, followed by the band’s upcoming North American tour dates, which were just announced earlier this week.
Mew performed at Under the Radar’s SXSW party this year. They also kept a SXSW diary for us, recently made a mixtape for us, and wrote a guest blog on a British design TV show. Also pick up Under the Radar’s current print issue to read an interview with Mew’s Jonas Bjerre.
