Watch: Mew - “Witness” Video
+- Out Now via [PIAS] America
Jul 13, 2015 Mew
Mew‘s last video, for “The Night Believer,” was quite an ambitious and inventive undertaking as it featured 1,000 of their fans (from 65 countries) singing along to the song seamlessly edited into clips with the band. The new Mew video for “Witness” is a bit more back-to-basics, but still incorporates their fans. The video was filmed at the Republique Theatre in Copenhagen early last month and features fans who responded to a post on the Danish band’s Facebook page, who dance along to the song and surround the band while they perform it. Interestingly, guitarist Bo Madsen, who it was recently announced had left the band, appears in the video, which was obviously shot before his departure.
Theis Molin directed the clip. He also directed the Mew: Live in Copenhagen DVD. He had this to say about the “Witness” video in a press release: “It was great working with the fans, so much love, affection and energy. We did 13 takes, and the intensity grew with every one. At the end, the fans had been doing the equivalent of about two weeks worth of working out. This shoot is one to remember.”
“Witness” is taken from Mew’s recently released new album, +-, which is out now via [PIAS] America. Check out the video below, followed by the band’s upcoming North American tour dates.
Mew performed at Under the Radar’s SXSW party this year. They also kept a SXSW diary for us, recently made a mixtape for us, and wrote a guest blog on a British design TV show. Also pick up Under the Radar’s current print issue to read an interview with Mew’s Jonas Bjerre.
