Back in June Mew already shared an ambitious video for “The Night Believer.” It was an inventive undertaking that featured 1,000 of their fans (from 65 countries) singing along to the song seamlessly edited into clips with the band. But the Danish band has now shared a new second video for the song. Why the second clip? Perhaps it has to do with the departure of guitarist Bo Madsen, who it was recently announced had left the band and was featured in the original video for “The Night Believer.” Or maybe they always intended to have two videos for the song. It’s likely the latter, as this new video features stop-motion animation, which takes quite a while to put together and has probably been in the works since before Madsen left.
Lianne Pierce conceived the video and teamed up stop-motion animator Will Hodge (Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox) to produce the clip using 2D cardboard creatures and plasticine cars. Check out the video below, followed by the band’s upcoming North American tour dates. Also read our recent print magazine interview with Mew’s Jonas Bjerre.
Mew performed at Under the Radar’s SXSW party this year. They also kept a SXSW diary for us, recently made a mixtape for us, and wrote a guest blog on a British design TV show.
