MGMT (Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser) released a new album, Little Dark Age, earlier in the month via Columbia. Last night they stopped by The Last Show with Stephen Colbert to perform “Me and Michael.” Befitting the album’s 1980s vibe, the performance was filmed and edited to resemble a TV performance from the greed-is-good decade, complete with VHS static and cheesy wipes. Then the band did a web-exclusive performance of their early hit “Electric Feel,” backed by The Late Show‘s house band, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, complete with a horn section. It was a great, almost jazzy, take on the song. Introducing “Electric Feel,” Colbert said it was a song he played every night for his audiences in between commercial breaks on his old Comedy Central show The Colbert Report. Watch both performances below.

Previously they shared a gothic video for the album’s title track, “Little Dark Age,” along with another song from the album, “When You Die,” via a trippy video that starred actor Alex Karpovsky (Girls) as a struggling magician. Then they shared another song from the album, the relaxed “Hand It Over,” via a psychedelic lyric video. Then they shared a video for another song from the album, “Me and Michael.”

Little Dark Age was produced by MGMT, former Chairlift member Patrick Wimberly, and long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, who has worked on all three of their previous albums). The album is the follow-up to 2013’s MGMT.
