Watch Michael Stipe, Stephen Colbert, and James Franco Sing “It’s the End of the Year As We Know It”
Song Sums Up 2016, Colbert Also Interviews Stipe
Dec 16, 2016
Michael Stipe
Last night R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Not only was he interviewed by Colbert, a very bearded Stipe joined the host for a funny parody of the R.E.M. hit “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).” The new version is entitled “It’s the End of the Year As We Know It” and sums up the crazy year that was 2016 as clips from the year were screened behind them. Colbert did most of the singing, with Stipe rolling eyes and pretending to be annoyed, but then he starts singing towards the end, at which point fellow guest James Franco pops out to also sing. It’s all very amusing. In the interview Stipe calls for the Electoral College on Monday to weigh their choices very carefully on whether to cement the election for Donald Trump. Watch the performance and interview below.
