Morrissey stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden last night to perform his cover of The Pretenders’ “Back on the Chain Gang.” He released a video for the cover last week and the track will be featured on the deluxe edition of his 2017 album, Low in High School, which is due out December 7 via BMG and his own new label, Etienne. It includes four previously unreleased tracks and five covers of songs by his favorite artists. Watch the Corden performance below, followed by his upcoming tour dates.

Rolling Stone originally premiered the video for the cover and Morrissey had this to say to them about The Pretenders’ front-woman Chrissie Hynde: “Chrissie is one of my longest and enduring friendships. I don’t have many. She sang on my 1991 U.K. single ‘My Love Life,’ and also on a track on my Swords album called ‘Shame Is the Name.’ Chrissie is the funniest person in the world, yet she has absolutely no sense of humor. We have been in many absurd situations - all her fault, of course. I know she’d marry me tomorrow, but she’s already had 11 husbands and she’s always being spotted digging in the garden at midnight.”

“Back on the Chain Gang” was released as a single in 1982 and appeared on the band’s 1984 album Learning to Crawl, as well as the soundtrack to 1982’s Martin Scorsese movie The King of Comedy. Morrissey’s cover will also be released as 7-inch single.
