Prince
Prince passed away at his home on April 21 and the Prince tributes and covers have been fittingly constant ever since. During their set at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on Friday My Morning Jacket covered “Purple Rain” and at another show in Oklahoma City last Wednesday they covered “Raspberry Beret,” as well as “Purple Rain” and “Sign O’ the Times.” Watch videos of all of the performances below. (They also did “Sign O’ the Times” at Jazz Fest, but video of that has already been blocked.)
My Morning Jacket released their excellent return-to-form seventh album, The Waterfall, last May via ATO/Capitol. (Read our 2015 interview with frontman Jim James about The Waterfall.) When Prince passed away, James tweeted: “[Prince] blew more minds in 57 years than most of us could in 57000 lifetimes. eternal love, respect, and gratitude to one of the true greats.”
