Last night legendary musical artist Neil Young was welcomed as the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Doing something a little different Young enlisted a bit of help from Jack White and his Third Man Records’ recording booth, performing covers of Willie Nelson’s “Crazy” and Ivory Joe Hunter’s “Since I Met You Baby” straight onto a 6’’ vinyl. The very same 1940s Voice-O-Graph was used to record Young’s latest covers album A Letter Home. In an interview with Fallon before the performances Young talked about how he was one of the first to show up at Third Man when the booth was first unveiled for public use. After watching a kid cover one of his own songs he says he thought “Let me try it. I could do a whole album in there.”
Scroll down to watch Young’s performances as well as a brief interview with Young adn White in which they discuss A Letter Home‘s recording process, as well as Fallon’s now infamous impression of Young. A box set of A Letter Home comes out May 27.
