Watch: of Montreal - “let’s relate” Video
Innocence Reaches Out Now via Polyvinyl
Sep 01, 2016
of Montreal
Kevin Barnes and of Montreal released a new album, Innocence Reaches, last month via Polyvinyl. The band previously shared the album’s first single, the fantastically produced pop song “it’s different for girls,” as well as a great dance party of a music video, “my fair lady,” and danceable album opener “let’s relate.” Now “let’s relate” has a video. The fun clip features Barnes (and a whole lot of other people) in drag while they have a crazy party that includes some giant hands and saws. Watch below via Stereogum, who premiered it, followed by the band’s tour dates.
Benjamin Rouse and Barnes co-directed the clip. Barnes had this to say about the video to Stereogum: “In a concupiscent spirit-rebellion against the discriminatory policies being championed by Right Wing/Christian Wrong politicians against the LGBTQ community as of late, we present an altogether inclusive and decidedly love-addled message to the world. Let’s not hate! LET’S RELATE!”
Innocence Reaches is of Montreal’s 14th full-length. The album was partially recorded in Paris, where Barnes lived at a friend’s home studio for two weeks. The album is the follow-up to 2015’s Aureate Gloom. Also feel free to read our 2015 interview with Kevin Barnes on Aureate Gloom and why he doesn’t get Taylor Swift, among other things.
