New Album Out Sept. 3

Okkervil River
On Sept. 3 Okkervil River will release their latest LP The Silver Gymnasium, a record inspired by frontman Will Sheff’s hometown of Meriden, NH. Promoting the LP by sharing childhood photos, creating an interactive map, and playing songs acoustically in his old high school cafeteria, Sheff has now issued a video of him playing the track “Lido Pier Suicide Car” in the very gymnasium from which the record takes its name.
In an interview with USA Today Sheff says “‘Lido Pier Suicide’ Car is about singles bars, interstellar navigation, mysterious disappearances, charisma, cocktail hour, abandonment and slimy things that crawl with legs upon the slimy sea. It’s kind of the dividing line down the middle of our album. ... The album version features optigan, wineglasses, casio, mandolin and the very versatile and musical Roland JX3P synthesizer. This version is just me and the nine-second reverb of a gym from the early part of the last century.” Click below to watch the performance.
