Currently up for an Academy Award alongside Arcade Fire for Best Original Score for their work on Her, Owen Pallett is gearing up for the forthcoming release of his album In Conflict on May 13. This morning Pallett has shared not one, but two videos featuring music from the record. The first is an official music video for the LP’s lead single “The Riverbed.” Directed by Eva Michon the visual was filmed in Los Angeles and stars Pallett’s professional actor uncle Jim Pallett as the protagonist. Owen himself has a small role as “Jerk #4.” “Typical Hollywood bullshit,” Owen says in a press release, joking about his supporting part.
The second second of the two accompaniments is a lyric video for “On a Path.” Premiering via The New York Times’ T Magazine blog the video was made by artist Steve Kado, who stayed at Pallett’s house for an entire week while photographing every object in it. “It’s very much conceptually about taking stock of our possessions, and the implied validation of life from the things we surround ourselves with,” Pallett explains in a interview. “And it will also help with insurance claims in case my possessions ever got destroyed in a fire!”
