Interpretive Abuse

Perfume Genius
Too Bright, the latest album from Perfume Genius, a.k.a. Mike Hadreas, is set to arrive later this month on Sept. 22. Ahead of the record’s release Hadreas has premiered a new music video featuring the included single “Grid.” Directed by Charlotte Rutherford the visual sees Hadreas finds himself abused through some interpretive dancers dressed in all silver. According to Hadreas the video reflects many of the album’s overarching motifs: “A lot of these songs are me trying to claim some power in situations that would typically depress or alienate or victimize me. Also, no matter how good I feel there is a darkness hanging, which I don’t agree with - giving it a voice is an attempt at freeing it so it can potentially dissipate.”
