Film Due Out November 2 via 20th Century Fox

Bohemian Rhapsody, a movie about the iconic 1970s and ‘80s rock band Queen, has been in development for almost a decade. It was previously revealed that Rami Malek, the star of the acclaimed hacker drama Mr. Robot, would be playing the band’s iconic late frontman Freddie Mercury and last September we were treated to the first photo of Malek as Mercury. Now the first teaser trailer for the film, which is due out November 2 via 20th Century Fox, has been shared. It looks like a rock biopic all right, but hopefully a fun one. Watch it below.
The band’s Brian May and Roger Taylor are involved in the project. Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, various X-Men movies) was the original director of the film, but was fired from the film after reportedly being absent from the set several times. Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) took over as director and he’s also due to make a biopic about Elton John entitled Rocketman.
Bohemian Rhapsody spans between 1970, when Queen was formed, until the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985, which was six years before Mercury died of AIDS. The film also stars Ben Hardy (as Roger Taylor), Gwilym Lee (as Brian May), and Joseph Mazzello (as John Deacon).
Previously Borat and Ali G himself, Sacha Baron Cohen, was cast as Mercury, but he left the project due to creative differences. Malek won the Best Actor Emmy for his performance as Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot.
