Legendary ‘90s shoegazers Slowdive released a new album, a self-titled affair and their first full-length in 22 years, earlier this year via Dead Oceans. It was our Album of the Week. Now the band have shared a video for “Don’t Know Why.” Grant Singer directed the clip, which is alas an Apple Music exclusive. So watch it over there. Below are the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Singer had this to say about the video in a press release: “This video is less about logic and more about a feeling. It’s a triptych about memory, about being lost and abandoned. Slowdive has been my favorite band since I was a kid. To say that making this video was surreal would be an understatement. Their music has been this gift-this friend that stays with me always and gets better over time. Hearing their new album left me speechless. So having the opportunity to make something for them is an honor that I don’t take for granted.”

Previously they had shared “Star Roving,” the video for “Sugar For the Pill,” and a remix of “Sugar For the Pill” by Avalon Emerson, a DJ/producer originally from San Francisco.

Slowdive’s last album was 1995’s Pygmalion. Slowdive broke up that year, although some of the members went on to form Mojave 3. The band reformed in 2014 and began playing shows again. The band’s full line-up is back: Neil Halstead (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Christian Savill (guitar), Nick Chaplin (bass), Rachel Goswell (vocals), and Simon Scott (drums, electronics).

Slowdive was recorded at The Courtyard in Oxfordhsire and mixed at Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound by Chris Coady (Beach House). Halstead had this to say about the album in a previous press release: “When you’re in a band and you do three records, there’s a continuous flow and a development. For us, that flow re-started with us playing live again and that has continued into the record.”

We interviewed Slowdive’s Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell in 2014 about the reunion and posted various articles on the band. Read our print magazine article on Slowdive’s reunion.
