Watch: Stephen Colbert Sells Michael Stipe for a Quarter
The Colbert Report Concludes Tonight
Dec 18, 2014
Stephen Colbert
Sadly, tonight is the final episode of The Colbert Report before host Stephen Colbert goes on to replace Letterman on The Late Show. In honor of the occasion, Colbert took last night’s show to sell off some of the memorabilia he’s collected over the years. Among the memorabilia was R.E.M’s Michael Stipe, who Colbert enshrined on a studio shelf a few years ago. (Don’t worry—Colbert made good use of his trophy, joining Stipe and Eno to perform “Lean on Me” and Mandy Patinkin for “Good King Wenceslas.”) Alas, it seems like no one wanted to commit to the care and feeing of a rock star, and by the end of the segment Stipe’s price was down to a quarter. Check out the clip below.
