A new trailer for season 9 of The Walking Dead has been shared fresh from Comic-Con and it’s been revealed that the show will premiere October 7 on AMC. There’s also a new trailer for the rest of season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead.

Big changes are afoot with season 9 of The Walking Dead. Angela Chang has taken over from Scott M. Gimple as the new showrunner and Andrew Lincoln has confirmed he’s leaving the series. Since his Rick Grimes character has pretty much been the anchor in the show’s ensemble (as well as also continuing to be a lead character in the comic book the show is based on, which is still going), this could really alter the dynamic of the long running show. Lincoln is leaving to spend more time with his family back in England. Lauren Cohan (who has played Maggie Green since season 2) is also stepping back, having signed up to the ABC show Whiskey Cavalier after a pay dispute she is only appearing in six episodes this season. Whether that means Cohan is permanently is unclear.

The new season will also jump forward in time, perhaps as much as two years, from the end of the last season. The below trailer shows that the post-apocalyptic community are trying to make more of an organized society of themselves, but it also hints that the core group are becoming fractured and may end up battling each other. There are also some shots in a major city (the show has remained fairly rural for most of its run) and a lot of new characters appear at the end of the trailer. Watch it below.

Also, it was announced at Comic-Con today that actress Samantha Morton is joining The Walking Dead as the villain Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers, a character known to fans of the comic book.

A trailer has also been shared for the second half of season 4 of spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead, which returns August 12. Watch that below too.
