Hollywood continues to mine the childhoods of adults to appeal to the kids of today and their parents who pay for the movie tickets. The latest attempt is The Peanuts Movie, based on Charles Schulz’s iconic comic strip and those beloved holiday TV specials. This time they’ve gone all 3D CGI, as opposed to the classic animation of those specials, no doubt to make it appear more relevant to today’s audiences, but thankfully as the new trailer shows off, the producers seem to have stuck pretty close to the tone of the comics and specials. The looks of the characters and voices seem to match up well to yesteryear versions and the whole thing seems 100% more faithful to the source material than the upcoming Jem and the Holograms movie appears to be (to cite another film based on an old children’s cartoon).

The movie is out November 6 and you can check out the trailer below to see Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Woodstock, and the whole gang.

In other Peanuts news, it was reported earlier this week that the British band Hot Chip have put out a series of T-shirts and sweatshirts featuring the Peanuts characters along with the Hot Chip logo and lyrics from their songs. They were designed in collaboration with TSPTR and has the blessing of the Charles Schulz estate. Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor came up with the idea and talked to Pitchfork earlier in the week about it, saying this: “The original Spruce 1960s Peanuts sweatshirts which I collect were, in part, an inspiration behind the color spectrum for our new album sleeves.” A post on Hot Chip’s website also explained the line as such: “Now you too can sport your favorite Peanuts character whose thoughts have seemingly been infiltrated by your favorite Hot Chip song lyrics - and one of Snoopy’s own declarations: ‘To Live Is To Dance, To Dance Is To Live!’”

Hot Chip’s Peanuts merchandise is apparently already sold out for now, but posted to their Facebook account yesterday: “To everyone asking about the Peanuts merch - all our stock sold out in about 2 minutes, we underestimated demand massively! More being made.” When they have more in stock, they will be for sale at the band’s webstore.
