Last night during the DC Comics and Warner Bros. DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League half-hour special on the CW the very first footage from the upcoming Wonder Woman film was revealed. The special, which was hosted by Kevin Smith and Geoff Johns, premiered the new Suicide Squad trailer and showed off footage from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the true highlight was the footage they premiered from the new Wonder Woman movie, which you can watch below.

The film is still in production and not due out until June 30, 2017, so this is very early footage. There was limited sound to the footage, Smith and Johns largely talked over the images, but it displayed the reported World War I setting of the film, with Wonder Woman on horseback, sword in hand, racing to attack German soldiers in one shot. The original Wonder Woman comics took place in World War II, which is also when the character debuted, so it’s a curious choice to set the film in World War I, but perhaps a smart one that will set it apart from the WWII-set Captain America: The First Avenger. Since Wonder Woman ages slowly, it also still gives them the chance to set future Wonder Woman films in different decades if they see fit. Apparently part of the Wonder Woman movie also takes place in the present day.

Israeli actress Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman/Dianna Prince and makes her debut as the character in Batman V Superman this March. The film also features Chris Pine as Steve Trevor (who appears in the footage), along with Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Connie Nielsen, Lucy Davis, and others.
