Jun 26, 2015 Blur
Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz has already composed two operas (Dr Dee: An English Opera and Monkey: Journey to the West), but now he’s set his sights on a musical. He has written the music for wonder.land, a new musical inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. In the new take, an unhappy girl escapes to a virtual world, rather than down the actual rabbit hole. There’s now a trailer for the musical, watch it below via The Guardian.
The musical’s book and lyrics are by Moira Buffini and it will be directed by Rufus Norris, the incoming Director of the National Theatre who also directed Dr Dee. Wonder.land will premiere at Manchester’s Palace Theatre as part of Manchester International Festival and will run from June 29 to July 12 before opening in London in November. Check out the trailer below.
