Watch: Trailer for ‘The Muppets’
Movie Due Out Nov. 23
What do you get when you pair Jason Segel and Amy Adams together? A weepingly cliched rom-com teetering on the verge of soap-opera melodrama.
How do you remedy this? Well, for starters, just throw a bright green, guttural-voiced puppet into the mix.
That’s right: Disney released today the first trailer for The Muppets, the highly anticipated comedy-musical starring How I Met Your Mother lead/Judd Apatow player Segel (who also co-wrote the script) and Academy Award-nominee Adams. Oh, and Kermit the Frog. The trailer keeps mum on most of the puppet’s antics—and, alas, the film doesn’t arrive in theaters until Nov. 23—but it ensures that chaos, hilarity, and musical numbers ensue. Since the cast also includes triple threats Neil Patrick Harris, Liza Minnelli, Katy Perry (does she count?), Donald Glover, and even Mickey Rooney, we can expect only the most outrageous song-and-dance sequences—especially if they’re anything like Segel’s famed Dracula rock opera from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Also joining the cast are John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Chris Cooper, Wanda Sykes, Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Ed Helms, and Zach Gilifianakis as the curously named “Hobo Joe.” But enough about the humans; Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Rizzo the Rat, and Rowlf the Dog are among the loveable, floppy players.
Check out the trailer below, and in the meantime, remember these thoughtful words of wisdom from the most famous frog there is: “Life’s like a movie, write your own ending.”
