Wye Oak (Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack) released a new album, The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs, back in April via Merge. (It was our Album of the Week.) Now they have performed one of its singles, “It Was Not Natural,” in the Moog Sound Lab at the Moog Music factory in Asheville, North Carolina. They reworked the song for a special performance on Moogs. Watch it below (via the AV Club). They have also announced some new tour dates, which are below too.

Wasner had this to say about the performance in a press release: “We had the absolute best time re-imagining our song at the Moog Sound Lab! We had just filmed our video for ‘It Was Not Natural’-shot in slow motion, so I had spent hours listening to a sped-up version of the track. That version had wormed itself into my brain enough that I felt like I wanted it to exist, and the Sound Lab was the perfect chance to make it a reality. Plus, we got to play Moog’s bad-ass brand-new synth, the Grandmother, before anyone else! It ruled. We love you, Moog.”

Previously Wye Oak shared the album’s title track (which was our #2 Song of the Week), as well as a video for “The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs,” the atmospheric “It Was Not Natural” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week), and “Lifer” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week). There was also a video for “It Was Not Natural.”

To record the album Wasner and Stack took turns visiting each other’s cities (Durham, North Carolina for Wasner and Marfa, Texas for Stack) for a week at a time.

In 2016 Wye Oak surprise-released the excellent Tween, a mini-album on Merge. Wasner released her debut full-length album under her Flock of Dimes solo project, If You See Me, Say Yes, the same year via Partisan.
