Xiu Xiu are releasing a new album, FORGET, on February 24, 2017 via Polyvinyl. It includes the previously shared first single, “Wondering.” The band also previously shared a video for “Jenny GoGo.” Now here’s another video from the record, for “Get Up.” Marty Marquez directed the video, which features a woman lighting a Molotov cocktail. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates. And don’t forget that the band are donating all their Bandcamp proceeds for the next four years to the ACLU.
Marquez had this to say about the video in a press release: “‘Get Up’ was pulled together by my somehow convincing a bunch of people to bring their expertise, their thousands of dollars worth of equipment and blindly (stupidly?) trusting me with it. Shot outside of LA in a not-to-be-named industrial area, what you see is the product of a guerilla production at its finest; no permits, no permission, leaping fires, basically everything you’re NOT supposed to do when trying to fly under the radar. But, nobody, not even passing cops, gave us a second glance, even though a crew of 10 was following our beautiful actress around with a ridiculous amount of equipment on private property. Amazingly there were no injuries, no street hassles and we got what we needed.”
Last April, Xiu Xiu released The Music of Twin Peaks, a new album where they covered the soundtrack to the iconic 1990s TV show created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. John Congleton, Greg Saunier of Deerhoof, and Xiu Xiu’s Angela Seo all produced FORGET. It features guest appearances by minimalist composer Charlemagne Palestine, LA Banjee Ball commentator Enyce Smith, Swans’ guitarist Kristof Hahn, and drag artist Vaginal Davis.
