Waxahatchee (aka Katie Crutchfield) has announced a new album, Out in the Storm, and shared a video for its first single, “Silver.” Out in the Storm is due out July 14 via Merge. Check out the “Silver” video below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art and her upcoming tour dates.

Out in the Storm was recorded in December 2016 at Philadelphia’s Miner Street Recordings with producer/mixer/engineer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth). Katie Crutchfield’s band for this album was sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; with Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributing lead guitar. The band recorded most of the album live, resulting in what a press release says is “one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date.”

There will be a special limited-edition deluxe 2-LP version of the album that includes “an exclusive bonus LP of demo versions of the entire album pressed on cloud white vinyl,” plus a poster.

Katie Crutchfield had this to say about “Silver” in a press release: “It’s about self-examination and the different shapes that takes, good and bad. I wanted it to be abstract and poetic, but I also wanted to align it with the other songs on the album, since they’re all so connected lyrically.”
