Weezer have announced a new album, Pacific Daydream, and shared an amusing visual for its new single, “Mexican Fender.” Pacific Daydream is due out October 27 via Crush Music/Atlantic. The “Mexican Fender” visual features a seagull that is obsessed with a woman in a bathing suit on the beach. Watch it below, followed by the album’s cover art and the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Back in March Weezer released a new song, “Feels Like Summer,” which is also expected to be on the album. Butch Walker produced Pacific Daydream. Weezer’s last album, Weezer (aka The White Album), came out in 2016. The new album, their eleventh, was initially intended to be the band’s The Black Album until the band realized it was a sunnier record. A press release says the songs are “reveries from a beach at the end of the world.”
Frontman Rivers Cuomo says this Chinese proverb inspired the design behind the entire record: “Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”
