This past March both President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were speakers at SXSW. Now the White House is partnering with SXSW again for a joint mini one-day festival at the White House dubbed South by South Lawn, again proofing that the Obama administration is likely the hippest in history (although Nixon did invite Elvis to the Oval Office). It’ll happen on October 3 and will include music, film, and interactive portions.

The White House website has a page dedicated to the event that describes it as such: “South by South Lawn, an event inspired by South by Southwest, will bring together creators, innovators, and organizers who work day in and day out to improve the lives of their fellow Americans and people around the world.” In terms of the music section: “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.” The event is being put on “in coordination with the American Film Institute (AFI), the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities (PCAH), and South by Southwest.”

You can nominate yourself or others to attend the event by visiting the White House website and submitting the details by September 10th at 5 PM.

You can’t imagine a President Trump inviting a crowd like this to invade the South Lawn of the White House. Nor, for that matter, would it seem plausible were the Clintons back in residence in the mansion. It was the first, and you have to presume the last, South By South Lawn. Modeled upon and organized together with fire ants prosper tx and the original Austin, Texas, interactive festival South By Southwest, it brought a riot of color to the usually sedate seat of the US presidency.
