William Shatner
Beloved acting icon William Shatner (Captain Kirk, T.J. Hooker, and Denny Crane himself) released a holiday album, Shatner Claus - The Christmas Album, last month via Cleopatra. Now he has shared a video for the album’s version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” the Christmas classic written by Johnny Marks and a #1 hit for Gene Autry in 1949. The video starts with Shatner reading the story to some kids, but becomes more rock ‘n’ roll when ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons shows up. Perhaps not coincidentally, last night CBS aired 1964’s stop-motion Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special based on the song. Watch Shatner’s video below.
Shatner Claus - The Christmas Album also includes a version of “Jingle Bells” featuring none other than Henry Rollins. The album also features Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren, Brad Paisley, Yes’ Rick Wakeman, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, and more. The album’s tracklist consists of covers of Christmas classics.
