Woodkid to Take a Recording Hiatus
Focusing on His Directing Career
Jun 25, 2014

Today before his Festival opening performance Festival International de Jazz de Montréal France’s Woodkid (ne Yoann Lemoine) spoke with a group of journalists. Among discussion of his thoughts on the festival (all overwhelmingly positive), and life as a multi-media artist/director/musician (the combination of which allows him to work both in an out of the mainstream), he declared his intention to take a break from music for the foreseeable future.
“It’s a very exhausting two years,” he said when asked about recording plans. “I want to focus on being a director right now. I do not feel like going again through the process of making an album. I feel like I’ve been very focused on myself for the past two or three years. Talking about this project, talking in press conferences. It’s something that I have to do but it gets toxic. It pulls you into your own little world. I need to open myself up more to other things for months or years before I start to work on a new album. When I do one, it’s not going to be very similar to what I’ve done so far.”
Woodkid performs tomorrow night at 9:30pm at the TD Stage for the Bell Opening Event. The show is free and open to the public.
