New Zealand indie-pop band Yumi Zouma have shared a new song, “Right Track / Wrong Man.” It’s their first track for Polyvinyl, a label they have just announced that they have signed to. The band self-produced the song and it was mixed by Jake Aron (Solange, Grizzly Bear, Snail Mail). Listen below.

Frontwoman Christie Simpson had this to say about the song in a press release: “‘Right Track / Wrong Man’ comes from a place of uncertainty - of not knowing if you should stay in the comfort of a slightly unfulfilling relationship, or branch out and make the most of the youth you have left; meet new people, go out more, dance, live. In the last year or so I’ve found myself switching between these modes, unable to work out what makes me happier, left feeling a little lost - but I’ve always found solace in the knowledge that at least I’ve been going out more, meeting new people, dancing - and living. As Yumi Zouma we often write songs that we want people to dance to, and that we ourselves would want to dance to - this is our dancefloor anthem to the confusion of living through your 20s.”

The band released a new EP, EP III, in September 2018 via Cascine. EP III was the follow-up to Yumi Zouma’s sophomore album, Willowbank, which was one of our Top 100 Albums of 2017. In May they shared another brand new song, “Bruise,” that was a standalone single and was one of our Songs of the Week.
