If you don’t know who Noel Gallagher is you probably shouldn’t be reading this. And since no introduction is necessary, none will be given. But please feel free to read on if you want to learn about his current project’s new EP, Black Star Dancing.

Two years after splitting from Oasis in 2009, Noel Gallagher started his High Flying Birds project with the release of a self-titled album and now, eight years later, his post-Oasis journey persists with a 5-song EP (technically three songs since the EP includes three variations of the title track).

Expecting a continuation of the same guitar pop that led to Gallagher’s stardom in the ‘90s would be a huge mistake and only lead to disappointment. But if you cast aside expectations and judge the music on its own merits, you’ll find a lot to like here as Gallagher serves up these narratives with charming and up-tempo, almost danceable, grooves accompanied by expressive guitar hooks and pleasant melodies.

While there is not much on Black Star Dancing that is daring or new in terms of musical explorations, the catchy rhythms are well-played with an honest energy and brisk vocals making for a pleasing EP that is worth a listen. (www.noelgallagher.com)
