Like many of us, El Perro Del Mar’s Sarah Assbring is terrified at the state of world affairs. Her newest EP, We Are History, enchantingly asks, “What can we do to improve things?” She might not have the answers, but with an electronic tabla box in hand, she makes searching for them a far less stressful process.

Across six songs and 25 minutes, We Are History manages to convey urgency without being loud. An alluring fog surrounds the pitter-patter of the rallying cry “Fight for Life,” and “Freedom Is a State of Mind,” which takes on the Western world’s imperialism, is as spurring as it is gentle. The title track, bound in formless synths and distant percussion, likewise resembles a cold mist over a snow-sprinkled log cabin. Assbring remains relaxed in her assertions, gently guiding listeners to consider the issues of our time. (www.elperrodelmar.com)
