White Hills is one of the more formidable contemporary heirs to the Hawkwind space rock throne, an electrifying live band, and a damned prolific bunch. Here’s another full-length, right on the heels of last year’s Live at Roadburn and the ferocious H-p1.

The band’s ferocity seems subdued here, and the roadburn a little more pronounced. Maybe it’s the recordingthe group dynamic is roped in a bit, with a less brash, more separated soundscape courtesy of Martin Bisi. One wishes the mellow-harshing were a tad more harsh, and the songwriting more caustic.

So it’s not the album one might have hoped for, especially after H-p1. Regardless, plenty of it does the trick. Let’s call it a rest stop on the unending search for space. (www.whitehillsmusic.tumblr.com)
