Steven Wilson and his band had just completed a long European run at the time of the performances filmed for Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Filmed in 2018 during a sold-out, three-night residency at the famed venue, they were clearly ready to hit the Albert Hall stage with songs that the musicians had been collectively living and breathing for months. As part of their tour for Wilson’s fifth album, To the Bone is well-represented in the set, and the hindsight provided here further confirms that to be some of his best work.

Following its 2018 DVD/Blu-ray release, Home Invasion gains a renewed presentation in 4K. The band’s instrumental delivery, a wide array of varied lighting and screen visuals, and multiple cameras constantly moving through numerous angles of stage action all combine in a next-best-thing-to-being-there video experience. Among the many highlights are dramatic moments from To the Bone including “Pariah” and “Refuge,” the complex “Home Invasion/Regret #9” from 2015’s Hand. Cannot. Erase., and a blazing tear through Porcupine Tree’s “The Creator Has a Mastertape.” What was already a dynamic, arresting concert video from the prog giant now finds a heightened experience in the updated format, with bonus features that include rehearsal tracks and an interview.
