Invincible Iron Man Vol. 1: The Five Nightmares
Marvel
Nov 01, 2008
Year End 2008 - Best of 2008
Writer Matt Fraction’s deft narrative explorations of Shell Head’s personal five nightmares dig up his past with Obadiah Stane and his misgivings regarding the future. Turns out Stane’s son Ezekiel is also a homicidal terrorist. It is refreshing for Iron Man to face off against a young adversary and the storyline runs at a speedy clip. It’s obvious Invincible Iron Man was crafted with the fans of the recent film in mind, but Salvador Larocca’s art direction is off-putting. His fluctuations between photorealistic panels and clean, classic comic art are often jarring. Also, the stale Pepper Potts romance feels really forced.
