Here’s more from lifers Obits, with the crew doing just what they do: amped-up, straight-up rock & roll served raw, with churning guitars framing a shit-tight rhythm section and vocalist/guitarist Rick Froberg mercilessly beating up his voice box.

Obits hit the benchmarks they’ve hit successfully for three albums now: blistering garage rock, Fender-happy surf stylings, and a wealth of not overthinking it. Plusbecause why notan Ethiopiques cover (“Besetchet” from Vol. 23).

Hearing the progression of Rick Froberg’s voice over his impressive career has been a real pleasure. He’s growing into the real thing, pushing ever forward into raw Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound) territory. Almost makes your throat hurt to listen, like you just took a shot of something (brown liquor, no doubt). See the superb “Pet Trust” or “Spun Out” for two fine examplesand two fine arguments for acquiring this album. (www.obitsurl.com)
