Sleepwalking Through The Mekong documents Dengue Fever’s performance in Cambodia—marking the first performance of Cambodian music by a Western group since the fall of the Khmer Rouge. Though Dengue Fever formed in the States, founding brothers Ethan and Zac Holtzman sought out a Cambodian singer in order to better capture the nuance of Cambodian rock n’ roll from the 1960s and ’70s.
The soundtrack accompanying the documentary is a mix of original Dengue Fever material and classic tracks from Cambodian artists. The resulting track list clearly conveys the surf-psychedelic rock n’ roll of the 1960s with a South East Asian flare. Both catchy and exotic, it neatly encompasses the band’s influences. The soundtrack provides an exciting taste of the cultural cocktail that Dengue Fever is dishing out, here and now abroad. (www.myspace.com/denguefevermusic)
