The Whole Truth (Wednesdays 10/9 Central)
ABC
Sep 22, 2010 Web Exclusive
Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer is at the helm of this non-procedural courtroom drama. The Whole Truth’s hook is showing both the prosecution’s and the defense’s side of the story. Kathryn Peale (Maura Tierney, ER) is at the head of the former and Jimmy Brogan (Rob Morrow, Numbers and Northern Exposure) helms the latter. The two have a long history having attended law school together. They battle wits and banter aggressively, barely covering up sexual tension that has obviously been there since they were at school. Playing off each other like a well-matched ping-pong game, these two are the strong core of The Whole Truth.
They are supported by a carefully chosen cast, including Eamonn Walker as the DA’s Bureau Chief and Sean Wing as a junior ADA, who is busting out of his suit with self-confidence and obnoxiousness. Antony Ruivivar and Christine Adams more than hold their own supporting the defense.
The Whole Truth is about letting the audience see that it is not so much about justice as it is about how the jury sees things. In the pilot, where a high school teacher is accused of the rape and murder of a student, the audience’s sympathies see-saw between the prosecution and defense, teetering dangerously over the edge numerous times. And in the end, Kathryn and Jimmy go out for a drink together. (www.abc.go.com/thewholetruth)
