Coachella: Field Notes #1

Live from Coachella Weekend 1, Friday

10:55 AM

Good morning! I’m currently sitting in my Motel 6 room getting ready for the first day of Coachella 2012. We’re going to try this new live-blog format in which I…well…live blog. We’re all gonna get through this together, fingers crossed. Keep checking back for updates directly from the field! And don’t forget to check out our Twitter and Instagram accounts for updates

12:54 pm

Has technology won this round?

1:15 pm

In for all of 10 minutes and I’ve already encountered three men in cute, loose-fitting sundresses. So pretty.

2:09 pm

Other Lives take the stage to an overcast and breezy Coachella. The whole experience suddenly seems surreal. Or maybe that’s just the air in Gobi.

2:15 pm

Technology on the field!

2:31 pm

I think we just felt the first few drops of rain on the field. I think. Truly a momentous occasion.

3:21 pm

Yuck on the Outdoor Stage, Bob Ross on drums. The wind is tossing the sound around, but nothing more than a couple sprinkles so far.

4:19 pm

With all this cloud coverage, I guess Yuck got the sunset slot. And on that note, radio silence while I recharge. Neon Indian and Gary Clark Jr. up next!

7:47 pm

Attempted to blog at 6:41, but the Coachella radiowaves were not having it. Saw Death Grips, complete with inflatable pill. Gary Clark Jr. killed it at the end of his set with a dirty guitar solo. Girls performed among a field of flowers. And a man who I believed to be Colin Hanks was not impressed with the Arctic Monkeys. But I was. Currently enjoying my now lukewarm cup of coffee with the red hot M. Ward.

8:41 pm

In case you’re wondering, Jarvis Cocker is a badass. This is hardcore.

1:38 am

Finally heading back to the hotel room after Mazzy Star, The Rapture, The Black Keys, Explosions in the Sky, M83, The Black Angels, and an incredible set from a newly reunited Refused. All with limited cell reception, of course. I tried.

A beautiful collection of inspiring anecdotes which brings a ray of hope when dark clouds gather, or a bit of sunshine during the rains or a speck of warmth during the cold….and I believe just a small inspiring word is enough to swim across the tides in life…:))
