St. Vincent

“Marrow” (Live on “Late Show With David Letterman”) Video

Jun 25, 2009

Watch on YouTube

Annie Clark/St. Vincent makes her network television debut by treating David Letterman’s audience to a rousing performance of Actor‘s “Marrow.” A strong supporting band of saxes, oboes, and backing vocalists help the shredding Clark. Actor is out now on 4AD and St. Vincent is finishing off her U.S. jaunt for several dates in Europe. Also, recently Clark played some stripped down versions of “Actor Out of Work” and “The Strangers” for Lake Fever Sessions. The indie queen even managed to squeeze in a rare track called “Oh My God.” It’s only available if you bought Actor through iTunes.

The Twilight Sad

“Reflection of the Television” MP3

Jun 25, 2009

Kilsyth, Scotland rock trio The Twilight Sad puts the spotlight on that burrowing bassline from Craig Orzel. Of course, Andy MacFarlane tremeloed-out guitar, James Graham’s signature burr, and Mark Devine’s drumming are equally brooding/pummeling/epic. On September 22nd (September 21st in the UK), Fat Cat will release Forget the Night Ahead, the group’s highly-anticipated follow-up to their astounding 2007 debut Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters. Before that, single “I Became a Prostitute” will be released as a 7-inch and download on August 4th. Also, if you want to hear/see some acoustic versions of Forget the Night Ahead track “Made to Disappear,” and Fourteen Autumns’ “Walking for Two Hours,” head on over to MUZU TV.

Jun 25, 2009

Here’s a dance-y Knocks remix of Peter Bjorn and John‘s anti-sentimentalism single “It Don’t Move Me,” from fifth LP Living Thing. PB & J were interviewed for our Winter ‘09 issue and had a Self-Portrait in our Spring ‘09 issue. The Swedish trio are in the midst of a world summer tour.

Those Darlins

“Red Light Love” MP3

Jun 24, 2009

Murfreesboro, TN’s Those Darlins is a rockabilly group with D.I.Y. punk intentions. They make all their own merch and drive around in a Chevy Astro van. Just don’t call them a “girl group.” Besides, they have a male drummer now. Here’s the single for “Red Light Love,” a swinging rock Lollipop with a twangy center. It’s the first cut from the quartet’s self-titled debut that was released on LP yesterday. The CD and download will be hitting us July 7th. In either case, you can pre-order the album at thosedarlins.com The gals (and guy) have a whole slew of Eastern U.S. dates this summer.

The Avett Brothers

“I and Love and You” MP3

Jun 24, 2009

Spinner’s got the title track from The Avett Brothers’ forthcoming LP, I and Love and You at the link below. The album drops September 29th on Columbia. Supposedly the Tar Heel crew’s piano-led folk ballad was written after a gig at Brooklyn’s Galapagos Art Space. The “Brooklyn, Brooklyn, take me in” line makes sense now.

Here’s a new song from the mysterious Sincerely Yours signees jj, the Nordic dudes who released “My Life, My Swag” and “My Swag, My Life” earlier this year. “From Africa to Málaga” is another breezy Balearic cut, for hitting up your local body of water this summer. That’s the blood-splattered wedding artwork below.

Sally Shapiro

“Miracle (Bogdan Irkük Remix)” MP3

Jun 24, 2009

Sally Shapiro is touring this fall! No, just kidding with you. The Swedish Italo-disco maven does have the first remix of her excellent “Miracle” single on offer. The Vocodered reworking was crafted by Bulgarian producer Bogdan Irkük (aka BULGARI), and is in support of Sally’s sophomore LP, My Guilty Pleasure, coming out August 25 via Toronto’s Paper Bag.

BULGARI also reworked Jens Lekman’s “Sipping On the Sweet Nectar” into a similar dance-oriented remix last summer. Love those dark disco beats. The “Miracle” single was recently released in the U.S. and Europe. Expect an interview with Sally Shapiro in Under the Radar‘s forthcoming Summer Issue.
