“Feel First Life” is one of the quiet and emotive piano tracks on Jon Hopkins’ brilliant album Singularity, released back in May. It’s reminiscent of Nils Frahm, a friend, and influence of Hopkins. Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade announced his last solo album under the name Moonface today. This One’s For The Dancer & This One’s For The Dancer’s Bouquet arrives November 2 on Jagjaguwar. In the announcement, Krug stated all future solo work would be released under his name. He also shared the video for the first single “Walk The Circle In The Other Direction”.
“I never made an album under that name I was embarrassed by, and this is one of my favorites, so I may as well get out while I still can, on a personal high note to boot,” said Krug in a press release. “Take this album as a sort of parting gift before Moonface sails into oblivion; the alter-ego’s final offering.”

Another track from the soundtrack Thom Yorke did for the remake of Suspiria has been shared ahead of the release. “Has Ended” is taken from the music for the Luca Guadagnino’s version of the 1977 horror film. The soundtrack is available on XL Recordings, October 26th, the same day of the opening of the film starring Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson.

That should be enough.

Following up his acutely and appropriately morbid score for the horror sensation Hereditary, multireedist and composer Colin Stetson has crafted a gorgeous soundtrack for the new Hulu original series The First starring Sean Penn. The music is once again dark, but more weightless and beautiful than Hereditary, to follow the story of the first manned mission to Mars.Stetson seems to be devoting more to film and television music recently, having been a saxophone player for acts Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Bell Orchestre, and Ex Eye. So far so good.
Anna St. Louis is on the come up. From the Kevin Morby family of talented musicians, St. Louis kind of sounds like the female version of Morby, vocally. Her debut album If Only There Was A River comes out October 12th on Woodsist / Mare Records. Today, St. Louis shared the single “Desert”. Listen below.

If Only There Was A River is the first full-length studio album from Anna St. Louis. The songwriter, who originally hails from Kansas City, began writing songs after moving to Los Angeles five years ago and has previously released a cassette of recordings on Woodsist / Mare Records, appropriately titled First Songs. The tape received notice from NPR: All Songs Considered, Pitchfork, and Stereogum.
On her proper debut, St. Louis, spreads her wings and expands on the promise hinted at on First Songs. To achieve that end, St. Louis enlisted Kyle Thomas (King Tuff) and Kevin Morby to produce the album, which was engineered by Thomas in his home in Mount Washington, LA. The collection of 11 songs also features Justin Sullivan (Night Shop) on drums and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Hill (Pavo Pavo). While hints of influences like Loretta Lynn, John Fahey and Townes Van Zandt peek out of the corners of the songs, If Only There Was a River is not a nostalgic affair. Rather it marks the emergence of an artist fully coming into their own.

Jeff Tweedy is releasing a solo album WARM, coming November 30th on dBpm Records. Uh..that’s cool. Today he shared the video for lead single “Some Birds”, directed by Seth Henrikson. Check it out below.

“When I got the call to collaborate with Jeff on the video for ‘Some Birds’ it was a thrill and an honor,” comments Henrikson. “The concept for the video naturally highlights Jeff’s amazing song writing and lyrical genius. However, it also exploits another of Jeff’s gifts—his uncanny sense of men’s fashion and hairstyles. I’m excited to share it with Tweedy fans!”
Jeff describes the song as “like a lot of songs on WARM, being a confrontation between self and shadow self simultaneously feeling I’m to blame and not to blame, present and gone, and utterly confused, but determined to hold someone accountable.
WARM was produced and recorded entirely by Jeff at Chicago’s now legendary studio, The Loft(with help from some of his usual collaborators – Spencer Tweedy, Glenn Kotche and Tom Schick). WARM follows the acoustic retrospective release, Together at Last (2017), and Wilco’s 2016 album, Schmilco.

A previously unreleased song by Chris Cornell has been shared in connection with the announcement from his estate that a career-spanning box set of his music will be released November 16th. “When Bad Does Good” is part of the 62-song limited edition deluxe box set featuring solo work and songs with his bands Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave. It will accompany 17-track self-titled album as well. The song was found in Cornell’s personal archives. Looking forward to all of the tears of joy, sadness, and memory this listening will bring.
