Murfreesboro, TN’s Those Darlins is a rockabilly group with D.I.Y. punk intentions. They make all their own merch and drive around in a Chevy Astro van. Just don’t call them a “girl group.” Besides, they have a male drummer now. Here’s the single for “Red Light Love,” a swinging rock Lollipop with a twangy center. It’s the first cut from the quartet’s self-titled debut that was released on LP yesterday. The CD and download will be hitting us July 7th. Supposedly the Tar Heel crew’s piano-led folk ballad was written after a gig at Brooklyn’s Galapagos Art Space. The “Brooklyn, Brooklyn, take me in” line makes sense now.

Here’s a new song from the mysterious Sincerely Yours signees jj, the Nordic dudes who released “My Life, My Swag” and “My Swag, My Life” earlier this year. “From Africa to Málaga” is another breezy Balearic cut, for hitting up your local body of water this summer. That’s the blood-splattered wedding artwork below.
Sally Shapiro is touring this fall! No, just kidding with you. The Swedish Italo-disco maven does have the first remix of her excellent “Miracle” single on offer. The Vocodered reworking was crafted by Bulgarian producer Bogdan Irkük (aka BULGARI), and is in support of Sally’s sophomore LP, My Guilty Pleasure, coming out August 25 via Toronto’s Paper Bag.
BULGARI also reworked Jens Lekman’s “Sipping On the Sweet Nectar” into a similar dance-oriented remix last summer. Love those dark disco beats. The “Miracle” single was recently released in the U.S. and Europe. Expect an interview with Sally Shapiro in Under the Radar‘s forthcoming Summer Issue.

Staten Island’s Cymbals Eat Guitars have a brand spankin’ new 7-inch coming out from Transparent in the U.K. on July 20th, and only Pure Grooves will be exclusively selling the release. The single even comes with a free prize for the first 300 purchasers: the sometimes lethal 1990 children’s novelty item known as the slap bracelet! Remember those? The non-album B-side “Tungunska” is available to download (more free stuff). It references slap bracelets and shifts time signatures like no other. It even has a slight Wilco vibe before the main melody line kicks in. Click on over to the quartet’s Myspace where you can download the track, in exhange for your email address. Brooklyn three-piece Phil and the Osophers make indie-pop with Nuggets-like twist. Think of a cuddlier version of The Black Lips or King Khan and the Shrines. The philosophy-spouting indie-pop band are releasing their sixth full-length, Parallelo, digitally and on CD August 4th on Factual Fabrications, Phil’s own label. Here’s Phil’s choice line from the jangly summer single “We Have All Summer” on offer today: “No begging for divine help, this overture is gonna write itself.” Sounds about right.
