1000 Rabbits Share New Song “Rubik’s Cube”

New Single Out Now on Young

The new British band 1000 Rabbits have shared their second ever single, “Rubik’s Cube.” It’s out now on Young.

1000 Rabbits previously wowed us with “Virgin Soil,” their debut single, shared back in February. It was one of our Songs of the Week.

The band features Laura (violin), Liv (synthesiser), Paolo (guitar), River (vocals), and Luke (drums). Four of the members met as teenagers via a music program in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, with Paolo joining once the crew moved to London to study. The band eventually became regulars at The Windmill venue in Brixton, South London, which has helped quite a few bands launch their careers of late.

“Rubik’s Cube” started as an earlier idea the band jokingly called “The James Bond Song,” before morphing into the current incarnation, with the vocals having a bit of a Björk vibe.

The band collectively, and simply, had this about the song: “Thank you for dancing to ‘Virgin Soil.’ We hope you dance to this too.”

Comparing the two songs, the band adds that “Rubik’s Cube” “has a similar danciness, but energetically it feels like an inversion, with darker verses and bright releases in the chorus.”
