Cardiff-based artist Ani Glass has unveiled “Phantasmagoria,” the title track and first single from her upcoming second album, due out September 26.

The follow-up to 2020’s Mirores, Phantasmagoria is a deeply personal concept album shaped by Glass’ experience of being diagnosed with a rare, benign brain tumour just before the release of her debut. The record explores themes of vulnerability, transformation, and healing, delivered through a rich blend of languages, Welsh (Cymraeg), Cornish (Kernewek), and English, with British Sign Language also incorporated into live performances.

The single itself is a lush, immersive piece that folds together hypnotic synth pulses from co-producer Iwan Morgan, flute lines from Laura J Martin, and Glass’ layered, spectral vocals. “I’m the prophet of sleep and silence / Phantasmagoria / We’ll rest until summer,” she sings, evoking a kind of restless serenity that sits somewhere between early Goldfrapp and the ambient sweep of Enya.

Inspired in part by the work of Arthur Russell, whose influence led her to take up the cello, Glass stretches her sound further than ever before, fusing electronica, field recordings, and avant-pop into something both intimate and expansive.
