Big Thief are releasing a new album, Double Infinity, on September 5 via 4AD. Now they have shared two more songs from it, “Grandmother” (which features Laraaji) and “Los Angeles.” Listen to both below.

A press release explains that “Grandmother” is “the first song all three members of Big Thief wrote together and grapples with generational love and pain” and “Los Angeles” is “a song of revival about past lovers turning into friends.”

Previously they shared the album’s first single, “Incomprehensible,” which was one of our Songs of the Week. The album’s second single, “All Night, All Day,” was also one of our Songs of the Week.

Double Infinity is the band’s sixth album and the first since the departure of original bassist Max Oleartchik. Big Thief now features Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, and James Krivchenia. The album was recorded over the course of three weeks at New York City’s The Power Station last winter. Longtime collaborator Dom Monks produced, engineered, and mixed the album. A slew of other musicians also contributed to the recording of the album, including Alena Spanger, Caleb Michel, Hannah Cohen, Jon Nellen, Joshua Crumbly, June McDoom, Laraaji, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Mikey Buishas.

Big Thief’s last album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, was one of our Top 100 Albums of 2022. Lenker released a new solo album, Bright Future, in 2024.
