Broken Social Scene Share Video for New Song “The Call”

Remember the Humans Due Out May 8 via Arts & Crafts

Apr 16, 2026

Broken Social Scene are releasing a new album, Remember the Humans, their first in nine years, on May 8 via Arts & Crafts. Now they have shared its third single, “The Call,” via a music video. The propulsive and lush song is the album’s final pre-release single. The band’s Andrew Whiteman co-wrote the song and sings lead vocals on “The Call.” Jordan D Allen directed the song’s video. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates with Metric and Stars.

Previously the band shared the album’s first single, “Not Around Anymore,” via a music video. It was one of our Songs of the Week. Its second single, “Hey Amanda,” also landed on Songs of the Week.

Remember the Humans follows 2017’s Hug of Thunder. The new album finds the Toronto band reuniting with producer David Newfeld, who produced 2002’s classic You Forgot It in People and 2005’s Broken Social Scene. The band’s singer Kevin Drew reconnected with Newfeld after several years. “Our moms would have wanted us to do this, and get it right after 20 years of not working together,” says Newfeld in a press release.

The band’s Charles Spearin says of Newfeld: “His production suits the chaos of our songwriting so well…he’s got a childlike energy that is really contagious, when you get a piece of music that he loves, oh my God, he’s bouncing like a little boy.”

Of the album’s themes, Spearin says: “There’s a different kind of honesty in this record, we’ve had success, we’ve lost friends, we’ve lost parents, we’re at this ‘what happens next?’ stage in life.”

Drew adds: “In 2026, you’re going to see a lot of resurgence of people going back to the roots of who they are, because things in their lifetime have gotten quite lost. I think we’ve let each other down, and I think it’s art that always tries to prevail, and tries to get us back on track.”

Remember the Humans also features Hannah Georgas, Lisa Lobsinger, and Feist.

In 2025, Broken Social Scene released the covers compilation ANTHEMS: A Celebration of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People. It featured The Weather Station, Mdou Moctar, Toro y Moi, serpentwithfeet, and more covering songs from You Forgot It In People.

In terms of the upcoming “The All the Feelings Tour,” Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Stars have a long association with each other, dating back to the early 2000s when all three Canadian artists came up at the same time and often collaborated with each other. Metric also recently announced a new album, Romanticize the Dive, due out April 24 on Thirty Tigers. Listen to its first single, “Victim of Luck,” here.
